Piano Primer is a piano-learning app for Android. It is designed to work entirely on your device. We do not collect, store, sell or share any personal data.
No internet access
The app does not request Android's internet permission, so it cannot send anything off your device. There are no ads, analytics, crash reporters, accounts or third-party SDKs that transmit data.
Microphone
With your permission, the app uses the microphone to hear which piano keys you play. The audio is analysed in real time on your device and immediately discarded. It is never uploaded.
In Free Play, the audio of a performance is held in memory while the app transcribes it into sheet music on your device. Only the resulting sheet music is kept, and only if you choose to save it. You can deny or revoke the microphone permission at any time in Android settings; you can still use a MIDI keyboard or the on-screen keyboard.
MIDI keyboards
If you connect a MIDI keyboard, the app reads the notes you play from it. This data stays on your device.
What is stored on your device
- Lesson progress, song scores and app settings.
- Songs you import and Free Play recordings you save (as sheet-music files).
This data lives in the app's private storage. It is removed if you clear the app's data or uninstall it. If you choose to share a song, Android's share sheet sends the file to the app you pick.
Children
The app collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
